Rich Hickey stepped up for Clojure, and immediately went concurrent. Demonstrating something he's calling "life": basically a calculation about what lives and what doesn't. It showed software transactional memory and the ability to do lockless concurrent processing easily.
Guillaume Laforge represents Groovy.
"Groovy is Java's best friend." / "Every Java developer is already a Groovy developer." After a brief intro, went right into compile-time metaprogramming (AST Transforms). Basically pushed them as shortcuts for patterns, and that flowed into @Singleton and @Delegate. For the coup de grace, he showed PropertyChangeSupport in Java vs. @Bindable Groovy.

The structure is two rounds: first, "Language Features" and second, the "Community Features".
Kikcing it off was Jython from Raleigh-Durham's own Frank Wierzbicki (Where's-Becky). Summary: "It's executable pseudocode." He pimped the lack of curly braces and indentation, with due acknowledgment of developer's resistence to the idea. Big push was that it solves confusing whitespace and simplifies adoption by not being able to argue about where brackets go. Showed how easy reflection was in Jython: "dir(String)". Finished up with triple-quoted strings.
